This was a project assigned to me in my Woods Technology class at Indiana State University.  This is an excellent project to teach students the design process, problem-solving, material estimation, cost analysis, and assembling techniques.  The criteria for the project are as follows:

  • Each student is only allowed one 2x4x8 piece of pine.
  • Each student must design and build a project that serves a purpose.
  • The project must use at least one type of wood joint.
  • The project must use at least 70% of the material, less waste is desired.
  • Fasteners, such as, glue, nails, brads, and screws can be added or eliminated.

This is the bookholder I made for the "2-by-Form" Project.
